Lower Halstow Short Mat Bowls Club
Lower Halstow Short Mat Bowls started in 2001 in the Memorial Hall, run by the Hall Committee. In 2013 the players formed the Lower Halstow Short Mat Bowls Club and took over the management of the activity. Since its start in 2001 there has been around 20 to 30 players every year, although several have left and others joined over this period we still have a number of original members. The club holds two sessions each week, Monday afternoon 2.00 to 4.00 p.m. and Wednesday evening 7.30 to 9.30 p.m. with refreshments at half time, at a cost of £2 a session. In addition our Lapwings team, having won Division 2 in 2017, is currently in the 1st division (of three) of the Swale League. This involves home and away games against other clubs in the Swale Area between September and April. We also arrange a number of social events and friendly matches with local clubs throughout the year.
Being affiliated to the County association our members can register to play in county competitions if they wish and if good enough play for the County and even the Country.
We have players of all ranges of ability from beginners to the more experienced players, who will happily provide guidance to new starters. Short mat bowls is an excellent way to socialise, get gentle exercise, and have fun. We have a selection of bowls of most sizes to borrow, so you can find out which suits you best. All you require is a pair of flat soft-soled shoes (You can play in your socks at first to see if you like it). The first three sessions are free so come along and have a go; you will be very welcome.
